FOR COLLECTIBLE PURPOSES ONLY. This is a vintage, cancelled share certificate and holds no financial value. A fantastic piece of scripophily / industrial history.

This 1958 West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company certificate features classic mid-century engraving in a restrained olive-green palette, centred around a neoclassical vignette of two allegorical male figures flanking the corporate monogram. These symbolic representations of labour and industry are framed by ornamental scrollwork and industrial motifs. Issued to Hamac and Company, the certificate represents 100 common shares at a par value of $5 each and was executed with exceptional clarity and symmetry.

Founded in the late 19th century, West Virginia Pulp and Paper—later known as Westvaco—was a leading producer of paper, pulp, and packaging materials during the post-war industrial expansion. Incorporated in Delaware, the company’s operations spanned across the eastern United States. The certificate was engraved by the American Bank Note Company, a firm responsible for many of the most elegant securities designs of the 20th century. It bears registration by City Bank Farmers Trust Company and transfer agent validation by Manufacturers Trust Company.

Dated December 2, 1958, the certificate remains in decent vintage condition, with standard archival wear and light toning. The reverse has been completed and endorsed with multiple stamps, including a key transfer date of December 7, 1975, and is accompanied by brokerage endorsements from Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith. Measuring approximately 12 x 8¼ inches, this document holds interest for collectors of industrial Americana, post-war corporate finance, and 20th-century paper industry ephemera.
