Original 1940 Consolidated Edison Company of New York share certificate with blue intaglio engraving and an allegorical vignette, issued for fifty shares and executed in New York. The document exhibits the refined security-printing aesthetic characteristic of mid-20th-century American utility corporations.
The certificate presents a detailed engraved composition produced by the American Bank Note Company, with classical figures symbolising industry, electricity and civic progress. Its typography, borderwork and embossed company seal reflect the authoritative graphic language of major public-service enterprises in the early twentieth century, when Consolidated Edison had already established its central role in metropolitan infrastructure.
Printed on security bond paper and measuring approximately 11½ × 7½ inches, the piece shows light toning and gentle archival wear consistent with long-term storage, while retaining strong legibility and well-preserved engraving. The reverse contains the customary transfer panel and regulatory text, offering collectors a complete historic document suitable for archival presentation.
