The evening glow of Torquay’s promenade comes to life in this richly coloured postcard, with warm lighting cascading from a central fountain and strings of seafront illuminations stretching into the distance. Exotic planting frames the view, while deep red skies evoke the final light of day over Devon’s popular resort town — long dubbed the “English Riviera.”

Postmarked 1 March 1988, this card was published by Europa Cards, and printed by Ashton Reed of Paignton. It features a short handwritten greeting addressed to a child at an infant school, making it a charming piece of everyday social history. The design is marked C36, and the overall aesthetic — including the bold red “TORQUAY” header — is typical of late 1980s tourist souvenir style.

While moderate edge wear is noted, the image retains excellent colour depth and nostalgic appeal. Perfect for collectors of British coastal tourism, seaside illuminations, or 1980s ephemera, this card also holds cross-appeal for those interested in faith-based postal markings — it features a unique “JESUS IS ALIVE!” themed stamp alongside a cross. A striking example of personal and public visual culture.
