This richly coloured postcard presents a tranquil moment from South Cliff Gardens in Scarborough, overlooking the sweeping curve of South Bay with Castle Hill standing guard on the horizon. Vibrant red and yellow summer blooms, a wrought-iron balustrade, and figures in mid-century attire evoke the relaxed charm of a British seaside holiday in full swing.

Published by E.T.W. Dennis & Sons Ltd. and postmarked 17 August 1972, this card was mailed from Yorkshire with a 2½p Queen Elizabeth II magenta stamp. The message within speaks warmly of good weather, day trips, and “plenty of sea and sunshine” — classic hallmarks of Scarborough’s enduring appeal as a leisure destination. The reverse features the publisher’s Photocolour series branding and crisp postmark.

Scarborough has long held a place in the hearts of British holidaymakers, and this postcard preserves both the iconic coastal landscape and a fleeting moment of personal joy from over half a century ago. For collectors of Yorkshire ephemera, seaside heritage, or 1970s postal history, this piece offers both visual richness and human connection.
