The image bursts with life: Bombay’s Victoria Terminus (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) in the early 1970s, with its Gothic Revival architecture presiding over a vibrant intersection filled with red double-decker buses, yellow-black taxis, and the hum of daily motion. This scene immortalises one of India’s most iconic transport hubs during an era of post-colonial urban dynamism.
Mailed from Delhi on 9 October 1972, this postcard bears two Indian stamps (0.60p and 0.15p denominations) and an evocative handwritten message to Eaglescliffe, County Durham. It was published as part of the V.T. Product series, well-known for documenting Indian rail and urban landmarks in vibrant colour printing. The script refers to travel timelines and local hospitality, offering a human glimpse into an early 1970s tourist experience.
This is more than a card — it is a tangible link to global travel and communication in a bygone age. Collectors of Indian ephemera or postal history will appreciate its dual charm as both visual document and postal artefact. Preserving such pieces ensures these fleeting views of heritage and human connection endure beyond their moment.
