Viewed from the peaceful rise of Todd Crag, Windermere glows with late-90s postcard clarity — blue waters stretching far into the distance, hugged by soft fields and shaded fells. Sailboats drift near the head of the lake while ribboning lanes and scattered farmsteads tell of a still-working landscape shaped by nature and time. It’s a postcard that sings of wide skies, crisp air, and timeless Cumbrian beauty.

Published by John Hinde Ltd. and postmarked 17 June 1998, this card is numbered 2LD 255 and features photography by Julie Fryer. The reverse includes a printed description of the area’s geological and Roman history, referencing Galava and the steamer services at Waterhead Bay. The card is part of John Hinde’s late-period “Lake District” series, well-known for its deep saturation and vivid tourism heritage.

Perfect for collectors of late-century Lakeland ephemera, this postcard preserves a moment before the digital age, when summer holidays were documented in cursive and shared by post. A lovely keepsake from a region still cherished for its silence, scale, and pastoral calm.
