Nestled in the regal gardens of Versailles, the Hameau de la Reine and Petit Trianon offered Marie Antoinette a rustic sanctuary away from the formalities of court life. This postcard, with its beautifully preserved multiview montage, invites you into that intimate corner of 18th-century France—where ornate neoclassical façades met whimsical pastoral cottages, and quiet lake reflections framed royal solitude.

Published in France and posted in 1973, this card features a central portrait of Marie Antoinette alongside vivid images of the Petit Trianon, the Queen’s Hamlet, and surrounding pavilions such as Le Belvédère and Le Moulin. On the reverse, two green “République Française” stamps bear a partial postmark from VERSAILLES and a warm handwritten message describing a sunny visit to the site. Addressed to Stockton-on-Tees, England, it was sent to Mrs & Miss Gallaway of Laburnam Road, Eaglecliffe.

Though showing notable wear to the corners, this postcard remains a visually striking relic of both 18th-century royal architecture and 20th-century travel correspondence. A thoughtful piece for collectors of historical French landmarks, royal ephemera, or those preserving the memory of postwar European tourism through handwritten mementos.
