The calm waters of Weymouth’s Inner Harbour reflect the hulls of fishing boats and motor cruisers, gently bobbing in the shelter of this historic Dorset port. Along the edge, vintage cars line up beside narrow rails, and seafront buildings cast shadows over a sunny quayside scene. The composition captures that unique mix of stillness and movement that defines England’s southern coast.
This postcard was published by D. Constance Ltd. of Littlehampton and features a vivid colour photograph by P. J. Sharpe. Sent from Plymouth in April 1968, it bears a 4d Queen Elizabeth II stamp with a strong cancellation mark promoting Plymouth as a Top Touring Centre. The reverse side holds a brief holiday message referencing a trip to Weymouth, connecting the sender’s journey with the harbour’s maritime legacy.
Despite light wear and faint creasing, this card remains visually compelling and well-preserved. It is an evocative addition to collections of Dorset ephemera, British harbour scenes, or mid-century postcard travel history — offering a sunlit glimpse into a working port caught between tradition and leisure.
