First flown in late 1916, the Bristol Fighter experienced a difficult introduction when No. 48 Squadron RFC suffered heavy losses at the Western Front. Rolls-Royce Falcon III engine, the Fighter achieved a maximum speed of 108 mph at 13,000 ft, making it a fearsome adversary in the skies. Over 3,100 examples were built, with the type seeing extensive service throughout the Great War. The subject of this print, D8096, originally built for private sale, was restored to Mk II standard in the 1930s and today flies proudly as part of the Shuttleworth Trust’s collection. Published by Flight, London SE1, 1971, this is a genuine period aviation collectible.
