The calm, cerulean waters of Sandford harbour reflect rows of wooden lobster traps and weathered grey shingled sheds, evoking the industrious rhythm of Nova Scotia’s traditional fishing life. In the foreground, coiled buoys and yellow-decked boats rest at the dock, while the wooden drawbridge — modest in scale but rich in charm — connects both sides of this working waterfront.

This postcard was published by The Book Room Ltd. of Halifax and printed by Lawson Graphics Pacific Ltd. in Vancouver, bearing the imprint of “Majestic Post Card.” Likely dating from the 1960s–70s, the image captures Sandford in Yarmouth County, a village just miles from the town of Yarmouth. The area has long drawn visitors with its deep-sea fishing, saltwater bathing, and maritime heritage. The drawbridge shown remains a local curiosity and engineering footnote — believed to be among the smallest operational drawbridges in the world.

For collectors of maritime ephemera, Canadian coastal life, or drawbridge curiosities, this postcard offers a beautifully composed glimpse into one of Nova Scotia’s most authentic fishing harbours — a tribute to livelihoods shaped by tide, timber, and tradition.
