With its formal parterre borders and serene water feature, this postcard captures the stately elegance of Lyme Park in Cheshire, as seen from the southwest. The meticulously clipped hedging and vivid beds of red, white, and blue flowers lead the eye toward the imposing Palladian mansion. Marble statues and the gentle fountain complete a scene of refined English garden design, basking under a crisp summer sky.

This view, taken from the National Trust Photographic Library by Nick Meers and published in 1998, shows the Dutch Garden, a celebrated formal space within Lyme Park’s extensive grounds. Once a Tudor hunting lodge and later transformed into a baroque estate, Lyme Park is a site of architectural and horticultural significance, famously appearing as Pemberley in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation.

Whether you’re a collector of historic estate imagery or a fan of British landscapes, this piece offers both horticultural splendour and architectural heritage. Ideal for admirers of National Trust properties, it’s a reminder of the enduring beauty of preserved landscapes and the cultural value of their careful stewardship.
