Captured beneath a brilliant Dorset sky, the image presents Kingston Lacy’s elegant stone façade with crisp architectural symmetry and striking roofline details. The mansion rises above manicured grounds, its rusticated lower storey and classical pediment reflecting an English reinterpretation of Italian Renaissance design.

Built in the 17th century for Sir Ralph Bankes, Kingston Lacy became the ancestral home of the Bankes family following the destruction of Corfe Castle during the English Civil War. The estate, as shown here, reflects centuries of refinement, expansion, and art collecting. Today it stands as one of the most beloved properties of the National Trust, housing treasures from across the globe. This postcard was photographed by Michael J. Allen in 1991 and published by The Delpool Picture Library, Poole.
