Framed beneath the summer shade of a spreading tree, this striking Mirro-Krome postcard captures the preserved elegance of Fort Anne’s Officers’ Quarters, nestled among historic earthworks and undulating grassy ramparts. The golden dirt track and white rope fence draw the eye gently toward the clapboard structure — a quiet sentinel over centuries of military history.
Established around 1635 and fortified by the British in the 18th century, Fort Anne is Canada’s oldest National Historic Site. The structure shown here was erected under the direction of the Duke of Kent and once housed British military officers. Now a museum, it contains weapons, uniforms, and domestic items from a time when the fort was repeatedly attacked — including by pirates in 1690 and 1781. Published by The Book Room Ltd., Halifax, and printed by H.S. Crocker Co. of San Bruno, California, this card exemplifies mid-century souvenir ephemera rooted in North American colonial heritage.
An evocative addition for collectors of North American fortifications, military history, or Canadian heritage, this card is more than a souvenir — it’s a fragment of contested frontiers and maritime legacy. Preserving it honours the endurance of a place that withstood siege, fire, and time.
