This undated blank share certificate from Seatrain Lines, Inc. illustrates a unique chapter in American intermodal transport history. Dominated by a striking allegorical vignette of a male figure with globe, anchor, and ship’s wheel, the artwork represents Seatrain’s ambition to bridge global freight across land and sea. Incorporated under the laws of Delaware, Seatrain Lines pioneered containerised shipping, operating a hybrid model that combined railway freight cars and ocean transport. This certificate was registered by The Chase Manhattan Bank and countersigned by Continental Stock Transfer & Trust Company, underscoring the trust-based financial structure behind large-scale logistics operations of the mid-20th century. Issued with a $1 par value and printed by Security-Columbian United States Banknote Corporation, it reflects the high production values typical of industrial scrip.
