FOR COLLECTIBLE PURPOSES ONLY. This is a vintage, cancelled share certificate and holds no financial value. A fantastic piece of scripophily / industrial history.

This certificate is defined by a vivid burnt-orange border framing a central panel engraved with the portraits of Josiah White and Erasmus Hazard, pioneers of early American industry. Issued under the laws of Pennsylvania, the certificate reflects the historic gravitas of one of the United States’ oldest mining and transportation companies. The distinctive “CANCELLED” handstamp dated August 24, 1938 confirms its decommissioned status while preserving the full visual narrative of ownership.

Founded in the early 19th century, The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company was a central force in the industrial growth of the American Northeast, managing both coal extraction and canal transportation across Pennsylvania. By the 1930s, the company remained a major corporate presence in the region, and its printed securities were both legal documents and symbols of its economic reach. This piece was produced by the American Bank Note Company, known for its precision in banknote engraving and early stock certificates.

This certificate measures approximately 11 x 7 inches and remains in very good archival condition, showing modest age toning and light signs of wear. The transfer panel on the reverse is unfilled, and the front bears clean cancellation markings and crisp, legible print throughout. A compelling collector’s example from the interwar period of American industrial expansion.
