1949 Missouri-issued share certificate for five preferred shares in the Hydraulic Press Brick Company, featuring deep blue border design and ornate Missouri state seal vignette.
This finely engraved document features a classic midcentury layout with a strong blue geometric frame and decorative typographic elements. At the centre top sits a bold rendering of the Missouri state seal, flanked by stylised medallions denoting the number of shares. The capitalised company name is presented with industrial clarity, suited to the firm’s robust manufacturing identity. Crisp embossing, stamped transfers, and punched cancellations add archival depth to the piece.
Issued on May 16, 1949 to Maude I. Hancock and Helene M. Mamon, this certificate represents five shares of $3.00 cumulative preferred stock, each with a $50 par value, in the Hydraulic Press Brick Company, a major supplier of high-quality architectural brick. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the company played a significant role in American urban development, producing pressed brick via hydraulic methods from the 19th into the mid-20th century. Printed by the Columbian Bank Note Company, the certificate reflects the mature phase of American industrial capitalism.
Condition is decent for its age, showing light toning, minor archival marks, and typical transfer endorsements verso. Measuring approximately 11.5 x 8 inches, this certificate remains a visually satisfying example of industrial-era American scripophily, particularly of interest to collectors of Midwestern manufacturing history or early construction and brickmaking firms.
