Issued 21 November 1961, this original E.J. Korvette Inc stock certificate is printed in vivid orange with an allegorical vignette of Commerce and Industry at the top centre, bordered by classic scrollwork and official stamps. The certificate was made out to Joseph and Dorothy McLaughlin for fifty common shares, reflecting a modest but tangible stake in one of America’s most prominent discount department store chains of the mid‑20th century.

E.J. Korvette, founded in the 1940s, revolutionised retail with its pioneering approach to discount merchandising, and by the 1960s had become a household name across the United States. This share certificate was issued during a period of rapid expansion and is countersigned by company secretary Murray Buelenson and president William Willensley. The certificate was printed by the American Bank Note Company, known for its fine engraved financial documents and securities.

The reverse shows a signed transfer from 1965 and multiple authentication stamps from Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith. Measuring approximately 12 x 8 inches, the certificate remains in decent vintage condition, with light age toning and archival edge wear.
