Above the patchwork fields of England, the formidable Short Stirling bombers once flew, bearing the hopes of a nation through the darkest days of war. This 5 7/8 x 4 1/8-inch postcard, issued by the Lincolnshire Lancaster Committee in association with the RAF Museum, offers a striking glimpse into that era. The front displays heavy creasing and surface wear — clear marks of time and handling — yet the spirit of those who served remains vivid within its image.

On the reverse, important historical details honour the legacy of the Short Stirling — the first four-engined bomber to enter RAF service, making its maiden flight on 14 May 1939. From No. 7 Squadron at RAF Leeming to major operations like the assault on Arnhem, the Stirling’s story is etched in these words. Noted are the bomber’s technical specifications, including its powerful Bristol Hercules XVI engines, its operational squadrons, and its pioneering role in wartime aviation.

Though time has left its visible imprint, this postcard still holds emotional and historical value. It is a tangible piece of Britain’s aviation heritage, a surviving memento of resilience, innovation, and remembrance — perfect for collectors who understand the deeper worth of every fragment of history.
