FOR COLLECTIBLE PURPOSES ONLY. This is a vintage, cancelled share certificate and holds no financial value. A fantastic piece of scripophily / industrial history.
Evoking the bold optimism of early 1960s American commerce, this stock certificate from E.J. Korvette, Inc. stands as a testament to the golden age of department stores and suburban consumer culture. The design features an intricate allegorical engraving symbolising global trade and modern enterprise, framed by an elegant orange border printed by the American Bank Note Company.
Issued on February 27, 1962, to Maxime and Marcella Chalmin, this certificate represents fifty shares of common stock with a par value of one dollar per share. It bears the printed signatures of company officers Murray Beilenson, Secretary, and William Willensby, President, and was registered through the Chemical Bank New York Trust Company. Korvette was among the first major American retailers to challenge department store pricing models, paving the way for modern discount retail.
For collectors of American retail history, corporate ephemera, and scripophily, this piece captures both the entrepreneurial energy and visual artistry of the postwar consumer era. The certificate remains in good vintage condition, with mild toning and light archival wear that enhance its authentic mid-century character.
