From the high slopes of Hallin Fell, the view sweeps across Bannerdale’s green basin, edged by the steep flanks of Beda Fell and the far reaches of the Martindale valley. Dry stone walls mark ancient field boundaries in neat, tessellated rows — a timeless symbol of the Lake District’s agrarian heritage. The pale skies and vivid pastures capture the cool light of an autumn afternoon.

Postmarked 27 October 1980, this postcard was published by Bamforth & Co. Ltd. of Holmfirth, a firm long associated with British popular culture and postcard production. Printed in Spain, the card has a scalloped edge and features clear, saturated tones typical of Bamforth’s later landscape series. It was written and posted during a family trip that included Lake Windermere, Blackpool, and the Pennines, adding a charming layer of personal context.

Though the card shows signs of light wear and creasing, it retains its rich colour and evocative power. For lovers of Lakeland topography, rural views, or 1980s travel ephemera, this postcard is a quietly enduring fragment of place and memory. Preserving it is an act of affection — for the land, and for the stories it holds.
