This picturesque East Sussex postcard presents a vivid tableau of southern England’s coastal charm: the neat lawns of Eastbourne, boats on Hastings’ shingle beach, the winding lanes of Rye and Winchelsea, and the spectacular white cliffs of Seven Sisters. Rendered in crisp cameracolour, it captures a bygone era of British summer holidays with pride and postcard-perfect clarity.
Published by J. Salmon Ltd, Sevenoaks — a key name in 20th-century postcard publishing — this card was posted from Worthing, Sussex, on 14 August 1968, bearing a black 4d Queen Elizabeth II stamp and matching circular cancellation. The message from Chris Warner, who had just passed their driving test, reads: “this is the life!” — adding a touch of youthful triumph to the historical document.
At approx. 5½ x 3½ inches, the postcard remains in decent vintage condition, with only modest age wear. For collectors of East Sussex memorabilia, seaside multiviews, or mid-century travel ephemera, it stands as a delightful artefact of personal and regional heritage.
