Bursting with nostalgic seaside colour, this vintage multiview postcard offers a joyful snapshot of Shoreham-by-Sea in its mid-20th century heyday. A central gull soars above four lively vignettes: boats on the River Adur, pebbled beaches by the lighthouse, the iconic Old Shoreham Toll Bridge, and a characterful view of the High Street. It’s a vivid celebration of coastal rhythm, where beachgoers, shopfronts, and boats animate a quintessential English resort town.
Published by D. Constance Ltd of Littlehampton, Sussex, this postcard is likely from the early 1970s and features a 3p Inigo Jones commemorative stamp postmarked from Brighton. The handwritten message on the reverse captures a holidaymaker’s relaxed beachside moment, with references to the weather, swimming, and weekend plans. It was addressed once again to Miss Galloway in Eaglescliffe, Teesside, connecting southern shores with the north through a thread of handwritten warmth.
Though a crease is visible on the left-hand side, this postcard remains a spirited relic of British summer holidays and coastal culture. Ideal for collectors of 1970s seaside ephemera, Sussex memorabilia, or graphic multiview designs, it offers not just scenery, but sentiment — a joyful piece of social history to preserve and pass on.
